How did we do it ?

                       The Old Sac Field Trip

These photos were taken at the Old Sacramento Field Trip. This experience for me was pretty amazing. I had the chance to see how Sacramento was in the old days. It was almost like I traveled back in time. The best part for me, was being able to see things from my own view and capture them exactly how I saw them. I think what kind of intimidated me at first, was the fact that thirteen other students were doing the exact same things that I was. This intimidated me because I was afraid my pictures wouldn't come out as good as the other students. I was also worried about the fact that my pictures would look similar to the other students. I had to realize that everybody sees things differently, and that what looks good to me might not look good to them. My favorite part of the field trip was the bridge. The bridge to me is kind of like a piece of art. You can capture it from so many different angles, and it gives you a different feel each time. My favorite picture of the bridge is the fifth picture down. The reason why I like this picture is the combination of dark and bright colors, and the angle I took it from. What I  did here was go behind a black gate and snap the picture. I put the black bars in there on purpose. For some reason I like the way it  looks. Some might disagree, but they don't see it through my eyes.

Action Photography

Today we learned about action photography. This style was the hardest that I've tried in photography class by far. Action photography is very challenging. The thing about it is that it takes at least ten shots at a time. Out of those ten shots, one will come out legit, two if you're lucky. The trick is what we fellow photography students call panning. Panning is when you move the camera during and exposure to follow a moving object. Panning will only work if your settings are correct. You want to especially make sure your on continuous shot , I believe. For me the challenge was getting the subject at a ninety degree angle, with everything in the background blurry.  This gives it the affect of moving fast, and that's what its doing. This was a very challenging assignment but a good learning experience.

Indoor portrait day !

Today was indoor portrait day. We were given the option to shoot in black and white or in color. Clearly I chose black and white. I think what inspires me the most about black and white, is the mood it gives the image. It seems like no matter what pose or facial expression you are doing, you get that ominous look in the picture. It also gives it a different kind of beauty by highlighting and darkening your facial features. Shooting in black and white is fun , and for me its what I prefer but it is also more challenging. In order to get those highlighted in the right place, and darkened in the right place shots, you have to make sure your camera settings are on point and perfect. Its not all about the camera either. You also have to make sure your subject is comfortable, and you have to make sure your telling your subject what looks good and what doesn't. It is also good to keep talking to the subject while taking pictures to make them feel good about themselves. Anyways, I love black and white, and that's definitely the style I will be using most as I grow as a photographer.

The Fire Truck

Today I worked with taking pictures in black and white. I learned how to control my camera on manual rather than auto. One reason I liked this better than working with auto is because I was able to adjust my ISO, F-stops, and Shutter speeds on my own. It was a lot more challenging because instead of the camera doing everything for you, you have to do it on your own. I took plenty of pictures but this one was my favorite. The reason I chose this this picture is because I believe the lighting is better than in my other images. Some of my pictures came out brighter or darker than I liked , but this one in my eyes was perfect.
